National Arbor Week is celebrated country-wide from 28 August to 4 September. We have joined forces with the City of Cape Town to add even more trees to our precinct.
As part of our greening initiatives for the precinct, the Century City Property Association (CCPOA) has an ongoing tree planting and maintenance program. Although the majority of the trees in Century City are established, we still managed to plant an additional 40 trees in 2023 alone. Most of these were planted on Century City’s northern border and a City of Cape Town road reserve.
This project was completed through an ongoing partnership with the City of Cape Town’s Recreation and Parks Department and Newlands Tree Nursery. The trees are sponsored by the City and planted and maintained by our CCPOA landscaping teams.
We would like to challenge every property owner to plant at least one tree this Arbor month!
Intaka Island’s environmental awareness campaign included raising awareness around the importance of planting indigenous trees, and specifically the ecological importance of spekboom (Portulacaria afra) especially in terms of carbon sequestration.
Intaka nursery staff demonstrated to visitors how to make cuttings of spekboom, propagate and plant your own spekboom at home.
